Alpha Bakery Banana Bread
It seems all bakers have a banana bread recipe in their repertoire and All the Time Bakes is no exception. When I turned five in the 1980s, my mom (Ava’s grandmother) and grandfather (my dad’s mom and Ava’s great-grandfather), by coincidence gave me the same obscure cookbook for my birthday. It was a sign!
Entitled “Alpha Bakery” and published by Gold Medal Flour, the book has since withstood countless moves across the country and served as one of my earliest inspirations to create delicious baked goods.
Ava and I have tried countless banana bread recipes, some winners and others duds. We always gravitate back to this one, which we are happy to share with all of you.
Ingredients:
3/4 cup of sugar
1 1/2 cups mashed bananas (3 large)
3/4 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup chopped nuts (if you like)
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon of salt
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Recipe:
Preheat over to 325 degrees.
Grease a 9x5x3 loaf pan with shortening.
Mix sugar, bananas, oil and eggs in a large bowl. Stir in remaining ingredients. Pour into pan.
Bake until a toothpick comes out clean, 60-70 minutes. Let cook 10 minutes, then loosen and remove from pan.
